Ralph Adams was a brick and tile maker from Gray's Inn Road. He set up his manufacturing business to the north-west of the estate. The area later became known as "the Potteries". In 1823 he entered into an agreement with F W Ladbroke to develop a strip of land on the west side of Ladbroke Grove, just above Holland Park Avenue.
Between 1826 and 1831 Adams built 11 houses along Holland Park Avenue of which Nos. 54-74 (even) still exist, and was granted leases as they were constructed.
