Chepstow Crescent

J W Ladbroke owned the land until 1847 when he sold it to W K Jenkins. Most building took place around this time.

On the west side, Frederick Woods and William Wheeler were the largest undertakers. They took two sets of plots on the west side, Nos. 1-13 and 19-25. (Nos. 9-13 have not survived.) Jenkins granted the plots of Nos. 29-37 to Joseph Clutterbuck, a brick maker. (Only Nos. 35 and 37 now survive). Several builders took single plots. Ladbroke granted leases of No. 15 to Thomas Cole, a Paddington carpenter, and No. 17 to Henry Beedle, a Paddington plasterer. Jenkins granted a lease of No. 27 to William Nicholls a Paddington builder.

On the east side all the leases were granted by Ladbroke. These were mainly in small lots. Nos. 2,4, 12, 14, 22 and 24  went to George Stevenson, a Paddington plumber. No. 6 went to James Swinburn, and No. 8 to Thomas Aitchison, both St Marylebone carpenters. No. 10 went to Thomas Bryan. Nos. 16-22 were leased by John Powell.

Thomas Pocock owned the land on which the western-most part of Chepstow Villas was built. In 1851 he used contractors to construct Nos. 3541 (odd) on the south side and Nos. 54-62 (even) on the north side.
