Lansdowne Walk

This road was named after Lord Lansdowne, a prominent member of the House of Lords when the Ladbroke Estate was being developed.

J W Ladbroke owned the land on which Lansdowne Walk was built. He entered into a building agreement with Richard Roy for construction of the houses. Roy subleased building plots to builders he chose and the leases were then granted direct to the builders.

The houses were all on the south side. William Reynolds, who was Richard Roy’s usual builder of choice, built Nos. 1-12 - the range from Ladbroke Grove to Lansdowne Road - in 1843-5, and Nos. 16-19 - the houses west of Lansdowne Road – in 1845. One house, No. 14 (just east of the Lansdowne Road junction) was allotted in 1844 to Samuel Clothier, a marble mason.
